New Video- Paint What You See and Not What You Think You See: The Influence of Symbols.

This may sound odd but I love writing handouts.  My idea of a good time is to figure out a lesson plan by deciding what concept I want to cover, then breaking the concept down into easy to understand sub- concepts and exercises that support the main lesson.

This is why I am so excited about making art videos.  It is like writing handouts on steroids.  With video I can illustrate and explain ideas in creative ways that are not possible with a sheet of paper.  This is a new skill and I am thoroughly enjoying the possibilities.  Huge, huge thank you to all of you who signed up for my Patreon site!

A refresher if you missed my last newsletter:  I have started a site on Patreon that I call “The Painter’s Classroom.”  Patreon is a subscriber service like Netflix, where I will be posting art videos, downloadable handouts, and blog posts.  Subscribers pay $5 a month and can ask questions as well as help guide the content that I cover.  If you follow my blog, you will enjoy this site.  I have always tried to keep my blog posts short and I am doing the same with the videos on Patreon. They are hefty nuggets of art info meant to build on each other and strengthen your skills as an artist.

I will be starting a series of back-to-basics videos, which explain the visual elements of shape, value, edge, color and texture. Some will be posted publicly on YouTube as well as Patreon.  Most will be for Patreon subscribers only and will go into depth on the topics.  Like a classroom, subscribers can ask questions and receive answers in a timely fashion.  This is a link to my Patreon site"The Painter's Classroom."

Introducing Fine Art Tutorials for $5 a Month!

I am now offering a subscription service of fine art tutorials, at $5 a month!

It is called The Painter’s Classroom, because like a classroom this will be an ongoing exploration of all things painting.

What you will receive as a subscriber

I’m providing an online classroom for painters of pastel, oil and watercolor; portrait, landscape, and still life.  Although that seems broad, the concepts of painting are not confined to one medium or subject. They all can be explained using the visual language of shape, value, edge color, and application.   My posts will be based on lessons that explain painting through visual language. I like to simplify concepts into easy to understand building blocks that will strengthen your foundational skills.

I’ll also give studio tips, art material reviews, and whatever else art related that catches my fancy.  The possibilities are endless and the site will be a collaboration between us.

• I promise to keep the lessons informational, entertaining and short.

• I promise to teach a variety of subjects using video lessons, blog postings, downloadable handouts and demos.

Patreon is a subscription service (like Netflix) where you pay a monthly fee.  This is much cheaper than attending a workshop or a class, yet offers many of the same benefits.   You can subscribe or unsubscribe as you like.
