It looks so much better in real life!
"It looks so much better in real life!" I have heard that statement several times lately regarding my work. I do admit I am not the greatest photographer. My method is to photograph the painting under different light conditions then run the images through Adobe Photoshop until I get an image that approximates the painting. Pastels are especially difficult. I like to work on Wallis paper which has a very toothy surface. All that roughness is great for glazing subtle passages of color but horrible for photographing. Any specks of white paper that are left uncolored show up as splotchy glare in a photo. This painting titled The Helper is a pastel that I am having a very difficult time getting a good image of. There is a strong value difference between the girl and the background and many of the soft changes in temperature are lost in camera's ablity to capture extreme value and strong color. 
I'm afraid this one is a case of "Gee, it looks much better in real life!"
