Day 20 of 30 paintings in 30 days.  Today I decided to do a color study to work out the composition of a larger painting that I have in mind.  Color studies are a blast, no pressure, just a chance to lay down some color values and see if the ideas work.  When I painted with Plein Air Magazine in the Adirondacks there was this beautiful abandoned house about a mile out of Paul Smiths College where we stayed.  The sprawling home had been grand at one time but was slowly returning to the earth.  Something about this house called to me and there are several paintings in the waiting.  The light in the Adirondacks is breathtaking and I wanted to capture that moment where afternoon nods to evening.  "Home Away" 8x6 oil
