My daughter sometimes wears a cute hairstyle where she twists her long hair into two buns at the nape of her neck. She sat for a friend and I in this sweet pose. This is my warm up for a painting marathon I am planning for January, 30 paintings in 30 days, stay tuned.....

WOW, having used your daughter as a model before, I really love this pose and the HAIR! I particularly enjoy the shadows on the right side of the nose, and the light blue-ish on the jawline. I really like this painting and cannot wait to see your 30/30!!!

Thanks, Sara. The palette for this was interesting. Transparent oxide red and burnt umber for the warm areas. Terra Rosa, Ultramarine blue and white for much of the shadow and terra rosa, white and yellow ochre for flesh tone in the light. Much of the transition color is made from burnt umber and yellow ocher which makes a most useful greenish tone. It feels great to be in the studio again and painting from life. It has been a long time since I have been in uninterrupted painting mode. The painting marathon should be a fun challenge and I am I'm really excited to test drive my Terry Ludwig pastel sets, which will be for sale shortly. Hey, if you aren't too busy in January maybe you can join the challenge too?
