It really is more interesting when there is a story behind the painting. What is interesting is how subtle many of the touches are that can make or break a portrait. Most of the dialog lays in the edge work and the narrative of the story lies in how the artist leads you though the shapes. Distinct shifts in value and color will always catch the eye. I was surprised at how soft I had to keep her face to make it work.
My daughter is enjoying her fierce Koala hat warrior painting. Maybe I will read "Last of the Mohicans" next time I paint my son:)
